August is here and that means it’s time to start thinking about back-to-school! As you start getting the kids ready for early mornings and start buying all those school supplies, it’s also a good time to think about preparing stuff for fall storage.
While it might not quite be time to put away the swimsuits and grills for the year, it is definitely time to think about what you need to store and how to best store it.
Seasonal Clothing
Streamlining school mornings can take a lot of different forms, from helping your children pick out their clothes the night before to having their school backpacks sitting next to the front door. It might even mean prepping easy to grab and go breakfast options the night before.
To avoid having clothing options slow your children down in the morning, consider putting their clothes that are not school-friendly away for the winter. Seasonal clothing should be washed and then dried completely before storing it. Consider layering clothes with a couple dryer sheets to help keep it smelling fresh and ward off insects that might want to make a meal on your clothes.
Storing your clothes in vented plastic containers or in storage bags designed for that purpose (including the space saving vacuum sealed bags) can help make certain your clothes are ready-to-wear when they come out of your storage unit.
Lawn Furniture, Grills
August may be too early to completely pack away your grill and outdoor furniture, but it’s not a bad time to start thinking about preparing it for storage. When you get ready to put things away for the winter, you’ll want your grill cleaned and empty. No charcoal or propane in the storage unit, please!
If you are not using climate controlled storage as discussed here, you may want to use a light oil, like mineral oil or even olive oil, to protect your metal grill from the damp Oaks, PA, winter. Use a soft cloth and a small amount of oil and wipe all the exposed metal, especially areas prone to rust.
